Waterfall Wedding in Iceland : Josh & Katelyn

This months blog is dedicated to Josh and Katelyn who celebrated their wedding day on a beautiful Sunday morning in October. They chose to have their ceremony and tie the knot at a beautiful breathtaking waterfall in Iceland. Not only did they get married at a gorgeous waterfall, but they also visited three other magnificent Icelandic landscapes to enhance their wedding day experience.

Katelyn and Josh were very timely in their Wedding Planning process and started their planning time with us a year before their date.  The earlier you start the planning process the better.  Planning ahead not only lessens the stress on your wedding day, it helps you to stay on budget.  Planning ahead of time also makes it easier to book venues and hotels to ensure you lock down everything you dream of for your wedding in Iceland.

One of our amazing Wedding Photographers, Christin, was hired to photograph Katelyn and Josh’s waterfall wedding in Iceland.  Christin was able to capture the love, the beauty, the happiness, and the memories of the special day.  She was the perfect fit for Katelyn, Josh and their love.  No one can deny how much love the bride and groom have for each other, especially when it is evident in their photos.
We only work with the best of photographers.  It is telling how beautifully Christin captures the joy in Katelyn’s eyes as she gets ready for the happiest day of her and Josh’s life.

The happy twosome tied the knot with their closest friends and family at this gorgeous waterfall in Iceland.  Fall weddings in Iceland are a great option for two main reasons: less tourists and gorgeous fall flora. If you want to steer clear of the tourist crowds (no one likes a rogue tourist photo bombing their first kiss) and want breathing taking photos; then a September to October wedding in Iceland is something for you. However, like many other places, fall weather in Iceland can be unpredictable. Sunny skies can quickly turn to rainy days, or vice versa. Iceland has an unofficial motto regarding weather: if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.  So to plan on the side of precaution Katelyn and Josh were well prepared with clear umbrellas for their guests.  Clear umbrellas can also be very photogenic.  You can rent clear umbrellas from our Mother Company.

Followed by the ceremony the newly weds enjoyed exploring Iceland with their photographer.  Christin documented their adventure crossing the different textures Iceland has to offer. Century old moss covering lava, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and fields of purple thyme are only some of the flora you can expect to see as you wander the beautiful landscape Iceland has to offer.

Brag Worthy Honeymoon in Iceland

Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland is a cultural metropolis with something for everyone. Whether you are a foodie, an art lover, a music junkie, or an adventure seeker there is always something to keep you busy in this city full of life. When looking for a place to stay, accommodation options are endless: hotels, hostels, or Airbnbs. Another bonus to staying in the city is there is no need for a vehicle. The city is very walk-able and local bus transportation is affordable and user friendly (you can find the Stræto app HERE. Foodie lovers will enjoy the traditional Icelandic eats found at many local restaurants. Tantalize your taste buds with delicious plates full of some of Iceland´s delicacies: whale, lamb, puffin, fermented shark, and local seafood. Not your style? Then grab a hot dog from the famous SS Pylsur stand by the harbor, otherwise known as the most famous restaurant in Iceland.

For those couples wanting to explore more than just the capital city, day trips are always an option. Either renting a car or booking a bus excursion, couples can explore a bit of Iceland with the comfort of staying in the city. Popular day trips include the Golden Circle, Glacier Lagoon, the amazing waterfalls in Southern Iceland, and the Blue Lagoon. Now that you have decided that a honeymoon in Iceland is the perfect accent to our dream wedding, it is important to dress the part. Whether it is summer or winter we recommend dressing in layers. A pair of light hiking boots and a water resistant jacket can make all the difference. And don´t forget to pack your swimwear. Relaxing in the hotpots at the local pools is a well high regarded pastime in Iceland. You´ll definitely regret not taking part in timeless tradition while honeymooning in Iceland. Many tourists often forget to pack evening attire when visiting Reykjavik, although not all places have dress code, you will be much more comfortable within the crowd if not wearing your winter attire at the restaurants, bars and pubs.

If a honeymoon in Iceland sounds like the fairy tale ending to your nuptials or is on your bucket list, Iceland Wedding and Honeymoons would love to assist in making your dreams come true. Please CONTACT us to find out more.

Waterfall Wedding in Iceland VIDEO!

It is our pleasure to share with you one of our stunning weddings from this summer. It was a thrill to get to work with a wonderful, down to earth, and stress-free couple from New York.  Fizah and Jonathan were a true delight. Their fun, adventurous and creative personalities were only amplified by their true and complete adoration of each other. Fizah, Jonathan, along with their 60 guests, and Iceland were the perfect mixture for a memorable destination wedding.

Throughout the day there was never a dull moment. The happy couple had so many creative ideas to ensure their guests would have a wonderful time and capture memories to last a lifetime.  In the morning, before the ceremony, there was plenty of time for the couple and their guests to explore some of the stunning landscapes Iceland has to offer.  After adventuring through three separate locations it was time for the ceremony.

That afternoon, the ceremony, almost too perfect for words, took place.  In front of a beautiful waterfall and 60 of their beloved family and friends Fizah and Jonathan vowed to love, cherish and respect each other for the rest of their lives.  The location was even more captivating with the addition of local talent singing native Icelandic hymns.  After the ceremony the group gathered at a nearby restaurant to celebrate.  The reception, where they would spend the remainder of the night, was filled with dancing, eating, and making memories.

Fizah and Jonathan chose to document the whole event by hiring two collaborating videographers: Cody from Glacier Point Productions and Matt from Lynn Production. Cody and Matt were wonderful to work with; they captured the beauty of the entire day with breathtaking footage.  Even more impressive was their ability, and pure talent, to capture emotion and feeling.  In the videos one can feel how much Fizah and Jonathan care for each other, and how strong their love is.  The videos truly do speak for themselves. Here is the first teaser.

Having a video of the happiest day of your life allows you to relive it again and again.  They say a picture is worth a thousand word, but a video… a video’s worth is timeless, limitless,…infinite.  When planning your wedding or elopement it is important to narrow down what aspects of the day are most important to you.  We often hear of couples that regret not hiring an experienced videographer.   Let us tell you, it is worth every penny! Still not convinced? Let Fizah and Jonathan’s complete video of their wedding day help you decide.

Hiring a Day of Planner, which Fizah and Jonathan did, allows the couple to focus on each other without having to worry about anything else. A Day of Planner also can help manage and direct your guests.  For larger weddings a Day of Planner is very handy especially when random tourists need to be kept at bay (i.e. preventing strangers from showing up at your ceremony or photobombing your wedding photos).  A Day of Planner does everything from setting up chairs at your outdoor ceremony, to helping your guest crossover little glacier feed streams.  A Day of Planner acts as your personal wedding aide and has everything a bride or groom might need throughout the day.  First aid kit, umbrellas, or blankets? -your Day of Planner has those covered.

Is Iceland your dream destination wedding location? Are you and awe of Fizah’s and Jonathan´s wedding?  Have you yearning of a similar experience?    Iceland Weddings and Honeymoons helps you to make your dreams come true.  Elopement, weddings, vow renewals-you name it and we can make it happen!  Contact us to start planning your amazing event.

Countryside Church Wedding in Iceland.

© 2018 DGJ Photography, All Rights Reserved

Does your dream Iceland wedding entail a beautiful countryside church?  Does it include stunning landscape? Tradition? History? If so, you are in luck! Iceland has a church in almost every town; even the very remote countryside towns.  This particularly charming church was built in the very early 1900’s and was renovated to include the majestic steeple ten years later.

This breath taking church has everything you could wish for in a church.  First, a stunning gate provides access to the yard.  The gate adds a little extra elegance to a bride’s entrance.   Secondly, is the church itself.  The exterior is beautifully painted in white with a red roof.  Inside you´ll find vintage pews, paired with wooden floors and an organ.  White walls compliment the ceiling, painted in sky blue with gold star accents. The blue brightens the alter, giving it a seaside feel.  For a dash of tradition and history, the Church’s first bible is kept on display in a glass box.

This is the perfect place to have a cozy wedding or an intimate elopement.  The chapel is large enough to fit a small group comfortably, but is also perfect just the couple and a celebrant.  Cozy or intimate this chapel can accommodate your dream wedding ceremony, making it the perfect place to say ‘I do’.

Not only is the church exquisite, but so is the landscape surrounding the area, which makes for stunning wedding photos.  Capture the memories of you special day with shots of the amazing Icelandic landscape to help you keep your wedding memories alive for a lifetime.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words but experiencing it in person is breathtaking.

R+D Elopement-6.jpg

We send our love to DGJ Photography (local Icelandic photographer) for allowing us to use these beautiful images!

On the surrounding land you will find magnificent rock formations, beautifully covered in decades of old moss. You will also find Iceland’s biggest natural lake, and a glorious historic rift valley. Not to mention the marvelous waterfall. In some of the rifts the water is completely clear. For the brave, one could even snorkel in the area, under local supervision of course.

The beauty of the surrounding landscape accents the quaintness of the chapel; making this the perfect location for the couple looking to add a sense of historic traditional to their already amazing Icelandic wedding.

Iceland Wedding Packages & Budget Advice

In an ideal destination wedding world, what would your Iceland Wedding Package look like?

Budgets and expectations vary.  Here at, Iceland Weddings & Honeymoons, we help you manage both.  But I do urge you to remember that Iceland is for sure one of the most expensive European countries you could consider having your destination wedding in.  The majority of everything is imported (IE, like liqueur, flowers, and the cost of living is more expensive than NYC) and it is a remote island, remember that tidbit folks!  …a challenging trade off to be wed in such a dynamic inspiring rugged landscape!

There are several things you need to consider as you formulate your Iceland wedding budget such as the following items:

  1. Time of Year (High Season = June-August / Low Season = September-May)
  2. Number of Guests (4, 10, 25, 50, 100 or just you two eloping?)
  3. Region of Iceland that intrigues you… City, North, South, East, West, Fjords!
  4. Type of Wedding Ceremony (Civil, Religious, Nature-Based, Norse/Viking, Humanist, or Non-Denominational).
  5. Photographer Budget.
  6. Location for Ceremony: Private versus Public AND Inside versus Outside
  7. Do you want an Iceland Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist?
  8. Would you like an Iceland Wedding Bouquet and Boutonniere?
  9. Lunch and/or dinner for your guests?  Formal?  Picnic Style?  Brunch?  BBQ?
  10. Extras for your ceremony – IE. If having guests consider having chairs or not… or a sound system if getting married at a waterfall.
  11. Champagne Toast?
  12. Private Room for your group (if guests)?
  13. Iceland Wedding Favors or welcome bags (if having guests).

There are ways to make an Iceland wedding budget more affordable by possibly skipping some of the above “extras” and we are happy to do brainstorming with you to seek out possible options.
