Have you ever been in an ice cave? What about an ice chapel located inside of an ice cave? In this blog we will feature the wonderful couple Joseph and Muriel who had an ice chapel wedding in Iceland.
Joseph and Muriel reached out to our team early in the month of May 2023. They planned on having a wedding in Iceland with a few of their close family and friends. They aimed to have their wedding on September 9th, of the same year. Our team had 4 months to help them plan their special day.

Having a smaller guest count allows you to plan an over seas wedding with a smaller time frame. For a wedding with over 50 guests we recommend at least a year of planning. The more time you have to plan, the more likely all of your guests can stay at the same place.
Having an ice cave wedding with more than 10 guests can be tricky which is why the couple decided on having their wedding ceremony at the ice chapel. The ice chapel is in a man made ice tunnel. No worries though, the glacier is very much real! This tunnel is located in Iceland’s second largest glacier, Langjökull. The ice chapel can hold up to 25 people. In our blog Iceland Ice Cave Weddings you can learn all you need to know about having an ice cave wedding.
Wedding Ceremony at the Ice chapel

To get to the glacier Joseph, Muriel, all of their guests, along with the celebrant met at the base camp. From there they jumped on a small glacier bus that drove them up to the glacier tunnel. It is not possible to get to the glacier tunnel opening on a regular vehicle. This glacier bus has been moderated in order to be able to drive on glaciers. This drive is around 30 minutes the ice tunnel from the base camp.
Once at the glacier tunnel opening they all ventured into the tunnel and then into their privately rented ice chapel. In the ice chapel the lovely couple exchanged their vows, rings and said their I do’s.
Legal Iceland Wedding
The couple had a legally binding wedding that is legally recognized by the United States. In order to have a legally binding wedding that is recognized not only in Iceland but also in your home country it is important that you follow all of the required steps with the Icelandic government. With the help of our team, we insured that all of the correct paperwork was in order and that each step was followed closely in order to make this happen.
