Skógar Church Wedding

Skógar Church Wedding

Dawn and Matt had a vintage church wedding.  What exactly does that mean you ask?  We, at Iceland Weddings and Honeymoons are happy to enlighten you.  The church Dawn and Matt got married in is very special indeed.  Although the structure of the church is quite new, most of the interior dates back to the 16th century.   The name of this special church is Skógar Church located at the Skógar Museum.  A very quaint and cute museum with Icelandic turf houses.  A must see stop while visiting the south coast of Iceland.

Wedding Ceremony

The couple has a beautiful catholic wedding ceremony inside of the Skógar Church.  Matt and  Dawn decided to walk down the isle together, while they walked down the isle an organist played the organ.  Later during the ceremony all of the guests joined in to sing hymns.  After the exchanging of rings and the couple had been given together before their guests and god they proceeded to a Champagne toast outside of the church. They had custom stemless champagnes flutes that doubled as a party favor their guests could treasure from the trip in Iceland.  How neat is that?

After the wedding ceremony was over, Dawn and Matt gave their family and guest time to rest and refresh.  The couple proceeded to go just the two of them along with their photographer to take more wedding photographs along the south coast.  Visiting a waterfall, sea side cliffs and the famous black sand beach along with an epic cave.

Day Of Planner

To help ease the stress of the Day the couple hired a Day of Planner. Her duties through out the day was to pickup the flowers, cake and packed lunches and meet the group at the ceremony location.  After the ceremony she set up a champagne toast and helped hand out champagne glasses.  After the champagne toast she helped hand out the lunches. Her last job for the day was to help set up the reception venue.  In our blog Why you Should Hire a Day of Planner for Your Wedding in Iceland, you can learn other duties a Day of Planner can have.

Reception Celebration

After the couple and the photographer were done with their wedding photography session Dawn and Matt got ready to meet their guests again.  Matt and Dawn rented a local restaurant on the south coast  to have their private reception to celebrate their big day.  For the whole Iceland experience the newly weds provided their guests with the Traditional Icelandic celebratory cake the Kranskakaka.  A must try while in Iceland.  Many bakeries provide smaller bites for those wanting to try.  We highly recommend trying it while you visit.
