When you begin planning your Iceland wedding, one of the first things you will likely do is look for ceremonyreception locations,  and hotels to house your group.  Next, you may then further hone in on specific planning details like your schedule or Iceland wedding menu options!

Iceland Wedding Menu

If you’re not planning a wedding with guests, you can skip this part as all restaurants will allow you to choose off the menu as if that evening.  However, if you desire something specific for your wedding night, making arrangements in advance are required.

Meanwhile, thinking about how you will tackle choosing your Iceland wedding menu can be overwhelming.  As you might start thinking about the needs of your guests.  First, it can be valuable to know ask your guests upfront (at a preliminary RSVP point) if they require any special accommodations for food.  For example, if they need a vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, food allergies, or kids meal option.  Note: Most locations would like for you to provide your final menu choices and main meal counts 30 days or more before.  Why?  For ease of planning and serving.

Second, you will want to understand how your reception location delivers the food to your guests.  For instance, plated, buffet, or served family style.  Third, how many courses do you wish to provide your guests?  To illustrate, 3 courses is standard.  And if you want to be extra generous have a traditional Iceland wedding cake too as a bonus course and traditional experience.  Lastly, having a custom menu for guests at each place setting is a nice touch!

Appetizer Ideas

Kicking off your Iceland wedding menu with an appetizer or two is exciting for all involved.  Especially if you incorporate some local options.  Here are a few ideas of appetizers that can often be found here in Iceland:

Icelandic Main Courses

Now on to the primary event, the main course!  Usually, it is best to only give your guests 2-3 options to choose from when they formally RSVP.  For example, choosing between lamb, fish, or vegetarian.  Unless there is an additional diet concern.  Either way, you’ll need to collect your final counts to give the restaurant around the 30 day mark.

On that same note, for ease of delivery and avoiding forgetfulness from your guests having a seating chart is beneficial.  To illustrate, creating a seating chart that not only has guests names but also their meal choice and any allergies is ideal to ensure no mistakes during service.  But now what type of main courses could you anticipate possible having on your Iceland wedding menu?  Some options follow below…
